I have only used my dash clock in the past, or a wristwatch, and I see these videos of people's vehicles loaded to the hilt with all means of sophisticated timing devices. I want in!
Anyone have a simple yet effective one for sale? I have no idea where to begin (researching now)
And, I'm the first member to post a thread in this section!
Hope to follow with some firsts that matter!!!! Hahaha!

Maybe Rob Walton will sell you the Alfa Elite that was in his car when he bought it from Dave.
We've used both the Alfa and Timewise and can honestly say there is huge room for improvement in both units.
Their main drawback is they all use a 20th of a second chip, so the most accurate they will every be is +/- .05 Seconds, which sounds accurate, but .1 seconds for leg 1 and .1 seconds for leg 2 and "Zero" is .2 seconds, even before all of the other potential errors are taken into account. .2 seconds will get 4th place at big bend and 8th place at silverstate.
A $10 stopwatch will read out to 1000th of a second... which is much more accurate than a 20th of a second, so even with a Rally computer, a stopwatch is a good idea.
Rally computers (and analog speedometers) are very sensitive to anything that changes the tires size, so speed (centrifugal force), temps and tire pressure all have to be carefully monitored and accounted for. If we ran the course @ 115 mph with the rally computer set for a 55 mph tire size/temperature, we would be off by 12 seconds, due to tire growth. That won't win any trophies.

I also second the stopwatch and a good set of notes. As I was told at my very first event by a few Texans...You have to be good to be close, and lucky to place!
